Description

Roland Green (1890-1972). Watercolour sketch of a pair of pheasants in mature woodland. Possibly a preparatory work for a more finished painting, showing a pheasant outline in the background. Frame, gilt, good with a few superficial chips to corners. Glazed. The image measures approximately 340mm x 295mm and the frame approximately 600mm x 540mm. It is signed to the right hand side. Condition is very good. Mount with wash lines, very good, but could perhaps be replaced with an archival quality mount board. Provenance: Exhibited at Hickling Gallery and likely to have been part of his final studio sale. [Roland Green (1890 - 1972) was an English bird artist, who produced numerous bird studies in watercolours and oils. Green remained a bachelor throughout his life, making his home in a disused drainage mill at Hickling in Norfolk. He set many of his bird paintings in the Broads, capturing some of the wild beauty of this region in his distinctive style.Many successful one man exhibitions followed in London as well as in Norwich.
