Description

pp. 304. "With 20 colour photographs and over 100 photographs and diagrams in black and white". Dust jacket fine, perhaps a hint of fading to green band on the spine, not price clipped, protected in the publisher's original clear "Duraseal" protector. Green Buckram boards fine with bright gilt to spine. Contents clean and tight, tipped in plate to the front free endpaper, "with best wishes R. J. Berry", no other marks. An excellent first edition first state copy. The rarest of all new naturalist titles. (Referenced by Collecting the New Naturalists NN70A.This is the first edition, first state of which only 725 copies were printed. Collins was unable to fulfil orders for the hardback edition, so subsequently bound up an additional 500 copies from stripped paperbacks, and these are referred to as second state copies. Second State copies are distinguised principally from the first state by being a few mm. shorter and are bound in pea-green "Linson" embossed paper-cloth rather than dark green, slightly shiny buckram. Additionally the dust jacket was not covered in a plastic "Duraseal" protector, unlike the first state edition) [Collecting the New Naturalists NN70A]
