Description

First edition, first state copy; pp. 432; 6 colour plates, numerous b/w photographs and b/w diagrams & maps. Dust jacket near fine, some fading to the spine when compared to the front panel, with the publisher's clear "Duraseal" protector that has a couple of scuffs to the rear panel, not price-clipped. Green Buckram boards fine. Contents clean and tight, no inscriptions. A near fine first edition, first state, copy. Along with NN70 Orkney, British Warblers is the rarest of all New Naturalists. (This is the First Edition First State of which only 725 copies were printed. Collins was unable to fulfil orders for the hardback edition, so subsequently bound up an additional 500 copies from stripped paperbacks, and these are referred to as second state copies. Second State copies are distinguised principally from the first state by being a few mm. shorter and are bound in pea-green "Linson" embossed paper-cloth rather than dark green, slightly shiny buckram. Additionally the dust jacket was not covered in a plastic "Duraseal" protector, unlike the first state edition.) [Collecting the New Naturalists NN71A]
