Description

A superb two volume set in magnificant full red morocco bindings, extra gilt decorated. The first volume was published in 1903 and the second volume (Part II) was published in 1905; pp. vol. I: x, [2], 358, [4 - personnel and members of the SPRS] ; vol. II: vi, 367, [1] [4 - personnel and members of the SPRS]; vol. II with b/w plate and tissue guard. Loosely inserted is a manuscript letter from W. Bruce Bannerman, hon. secretary of the SPRS on SPRS headed paper, to 'Di' dated 20/11/07. All edges gilt; fived raised bands to the spine, gilt lettering to the second and third compartments extravagent gilt decoration to other compartments; borders of three gilt rules with corner bosses to the boards; gilt dentelles; wide and extensively gilt decorated turn-ins; marbled end papers. Bindings fine with slight rubbing only. Contents clean and tight, light spotting to first and last few blank leafs otherwise unmarked, no inscriptions, slight shadow from former bookplate to paste-down of vol. II. A magnificent set.
